What a beautiful day today was!

Thought you might enjoy some of today's images as I walked along the foot path behind the Fisher Cat Stadium with my doggies...I happened upon two artists, both students at the NHIA (New Hampshire Institute of Art, Manchester, NH) who were doing some plein-aire oil and water color painting and drawing!
They were generous enough to let me take a couple images of them, and even told me their names! Cool!
So, meet Scott Panuczak, a Junior, who hails from Cape Cod, Ma. (he was set up with the easel) and Charlotte Callaghan, a end of year Junior, who hails from Guilford, NH (she was doing water color in her lap!)

I hope if you know them, you will share this post with them!
It was a GREAT day for art!

Meet the Artists

Debbie Curtin of Londonderry NH is showcasing a mixed assortment of art style and use of water media. From representative work to more suggestive images, water is the medium that gives these pieces a distinctive range. The monoprints are what the name implies, one print. Using household objects and random choices the acrylic paint is moved and manipulated until the desired pattern is achieved. A precut mat is used to assess the final design from the pattern and that ultimately becomes the final framed image.

NHIA Artists

Kara Holbert (coordinator of the part of the exhibit) is a painter at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She also has experience in traditional and digital illustration. Her new work will be exhibited in the NHIA in the Spring of 2010 and 2011. Kara is the coordinator who pulled all the artwork together of other NHIA students.

David Christopher (Art of All Kinds) his focus is to express and provoke dialogue between himself and the viewer. He has exhibited throughout Boston and Manchester. For more information on shows, commissions and to view his work visit http://vilorphiamatrix.daportfolio.com/. Contact him at vilorphian@gmail.com.

Matt Smigiel attends NHIA as an illustrator/cartoonist and has had work featured in CT newspapers as well as in posters for numerous bands and CD's from CT to CA.

Sarabeth Graziano is an artist from Manchester, NH currently focused on photographing the 'found object'... capturing scenes, places, and things in their natural environment, and depicting them in different ways and composition. Michelle Turgeon attends NHIA, and is a third year Illustration major. “A few summers ago I decided I was going to experiment with different mediums. I bought brushes and colored inks, but by the time I got to the paper I had no idea what to make so I just started inking lines, and then it turned into my “Red Inked Flowers”. A Happy Accident would have been a more appropriate name for the piece.

Corina Willette attends NHIA and is currently painting in oils. The artist says: "Painting is fun work!"

Aimee Cozza attends the NHIA for Illustration and is mainly a digital artist but constantly works with mixed media. She enjoys creating pensive self-explorative and environmentally explorative pieces.

Brad Turgeon attends NHIA as an illustrator who works digitally. He also has an extensive background in the area of graphic design.

Ashley McCarty is an upcoming graduate from NHIA with a concentration in Illustration. Her work is mostly driven by her love for feminine aesthetics and patterning. She has worked on projects for the community such as the 2009 Boy Scouts of America; Moose Parade, where she painted large fiber glass moose. Look for her work at the NHIA 2010 annual exhibition beginning 5/16/2010!

About the Manchester Art Fund

Artists & Businesses are supporting art in Manchester!

All artists for this exhibit have generously donated $50 p/p to the “Manchester Art Fund”. These donations help the Commission to sustain this fund, which is a “protected” funds source to be used specifically for purchasing public art in the City of Manchester. Individual artist’s and like-minded individuals, business and organizations make contributions which directly support the arts in Manchester with each and every exhibit held at the “Art on the Wall at City Hall” Gallery.

The Board of Mayor and Alderman established the Manchester Art Fund in December 2002. The Art Fund is a non-lapsing fund designated strictly for public art, to which anyone is welcomed to make a donation. This fund ensures that such a vision becomes a reality. This fund, in part with other support, helped us bring sculptures like the Mill Girl & the Verizon Wireless Arena sculpture to fruition…along with other works of art. A new sculpture will be coming to the City in the Fall of 2010…be sure to watch for information about this newest commission! (visit our blog at or follow us on Facebook…) Get a sneak peak of the concept sculpture at City Hall on display in the wing that adjoins the two hallways.

The Manchester Art Fund is a grand legacy for future generations while also enhancing the quality of life, for Manchester’s residents and visitors alike, in the present. If you would like to make a contribution or if you would like more details specific to a sponsorship opportunity, or for the Manchester Art Fun in general, please contact arts@artsmanchester.org

About the Manchester Arts Commission

The Manchester Arts Commission was created in 1937 and is a group of 5 regular and 2 alternate appointed citizens, dedicated to improving access to and promoting art of all forms within the City of Manchester. The mission is fulfilled in part by the coordination and maintenance of the “Art on the Wall at City Hall” Art Gallery, the Open Doors Manchester Art and Cultural Trolley Tour and it's work to sustain the McInnich Art Gallery. We welcome guests to attend our monthly meetings and Manchester residents to let us know if you would be interested in being on the Commission.

The Manchester Arts Commission is seeking business owners who would like to sponsor an artist with a donation of $50, or to become a sponsor of a Trolley Night event - specifically in support of the Art on the Wall at City Hall location, or with in-kind donations such as food and refreshments, music, event volunteers, etc. If you would like more details on this, please contact the Commission at arts@manchesterarts.org.
