Meet the Artists

Marcia Santore of Plymouth NH www.marciasantore.com
Marcia Green Santore was raised in Connecticut, California, upstate New York and central Texas. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art, with an emphasis in painting and drawing, from the University of Texas at Austin. Since then, she has lived and worked in Austin, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. She currently lives in the lakes and mountains region of New Hampshire, where she has taught art at Plymouth State University and other teaching studios. Santore has exhibited her work, which is in private and public collections, throughout the United States.

Santore serves on the board of the Women's Caucus for Art - New Hampshire, is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association, and appeared in Who's Who of American Women (Marquis, 1996, 1997, 2004).

Tony Luongo of Manchester, NH www.luongoart.com
Tony’s abstract paintings are a way for him to relax and just enjoy the youthful pleasure of putting paint on canvas. He cannot make a “mistake” because if a painting is not turning out the way he likes then he lets it dry and paints over it. This is one of the ways he creates subtle texture and beautiful color, both bold and subdued, that evoke passion and emotion. His work can be found in private collection throughout the United States.

Tony Luongo, a self-taught award-winning artist, illustrator and designer whose portraits have garnered national recognition lives in Manchester, NH. His greatest artistic passion is in portraiture and figurative work in both oil and charcoal. He also enjoys plein air painting when he needs to get out of the studio. He continues to improve his skills and is always trying to impress his loving wife, little boy and baby girl.

Aline Lotter, Manchester, NH www.PaintingsByAline.com
I have been painting landscapes only since October of 2005, but I have aspired to be an artist since childhood. During long decades of denial, I fulfilled my love of art by collecting the paintings of others, including many who are New Hampshire artists. Now that I can express my own artistic impulses, the medium of expression has been oil and the subject has been, for the most part, landscapes. My “day job” is as a tax lawyer with the firm, Lotter & Associates, P.C., Manchester, NH. In furtherance of my legal career, I earned degrees from Cornell University, Suffolk University Law School and Boston University Law School.

Debbie Curtin of Manchester, NH
If you are a RED SOX fan, then you are going to LOVE her current exhibit! She loves to work with text and letterforms, and her exhibit showcases cool signs, including a sandwich board style sign, that she has created in the fashion of what one might actually see hanging around the walls of Fenway Park, all using the “Red Sox” typeface as the basis of the piece. Red Sox Nation - you gotta see these signs!

About the Manchester Art Fund
Artists & Businesses are supporting art in Manchester!

All artists for this exhibit have generously donated $50 p/p to the “Manchester Art Fund”. These donations help the Commission to sustain this fund, which is a “protected” funds source to be used specifically for purchasing public art in the City of Manchester. Individual artist’s and like-minded individuals, business and organizations make contributions which directly support the arts in Manchester with each and every exhibit held at the “Art on the Wall at City Hall” Gallery.

The Board of Mayor and Alderman established the Manchester Art Fund in December 2002. The Art Fund is a non-lapsing fund designated strictly for public art, to which anyone is welcomed to make a donation. This fund ensures that such a vision becomes a reality. This fund, in part with other support, helped us bring sculptures like the Mill Girl, and most recently the Verizon Wireless Arena piece, along with other works of art. A new sculpture will be coming to the City in the Fall of 2010…be sure to watch for information about this newest commission! (visit our blog or follow us on Facebook…) Get a sneak peak of the concept sculpture at City Hall on Sept 17th!

The Manchester Art Fund is a grand legacy for future generations while also enhancing the quality of life, for Manchester’s residents and visitors alike, in the present. If you would like to make a contribution or if you would like more details specific to a sponsorship opportunity, or for the Manchester Art Fun in general, please contact arts@artsmanchester.org

About the Manchester Arts Commission
The Manchester Arts Commission was created in 1937 and is a group of 5 regular and 2 alternate appointed citizens, dedicated to improving access to and promoting art of all forms within the City of Manchester. The mission is fulfilled in part by the coordination and maintenance of the “Art on the Wall at City Hall” Art Gallery, the Open Doors Manchester Art and Cultural Trolley Tour and it's work to sustain the McInnich Art Gallery.

The Manchester Arts Commission is seeking business owners who would like to sponsor an artist with a donation of $50, or to become a sponsor of a Trolley Night event - specifically in support of the Art on the Wall at City Hall location, or with in-kind donations such as food and refreshments, music, event volunteers, etc. If you would like more details on this, please contact the Commission at arts@manchesterarts.org.

Art at the Verizon Center

With funding from the Verizon Center and the privately funded Manchester Art Fund a new piece of art was put in place in front of the Verizon Center.

We are very excited for more art work in the city. Please visit our Facebook Fans group for more information and pictures from the event.

Currently the arts commission is working on finding a new sculptor for an art piece to be put up at the intersection of Old Granite and Granite. We have many exciting submissions and will be letting everyone know who is awarded the project soon. We hope to continue adding progress pictures of the sculpture to this blog, so stay tuned for more information!

A Ton of New Bull in Manchester

Did you know that there is a ton of new bull in Manchester? And dang is it beautiful!

Today we were lucky to go to the installation of a new piece of public art in Manchester. If you have the oppurtunity to visit it, you should. It's on the east side of the Hand's Across the Merrimack Bridge. It commemorates Manchester’s entrepreneurial tradition, exemplified by the founders and employees of Jac Pac Foods. The sculpture is abstract and represents a bull, i.e., powerful, strong.

The artist explains that it is a "fun style" and that he's been "trying to mix it up". It is bronze, for both durability and color (contrasting well at the river's edge with the water). It is literally a ton of metal, and is approximately 13 feet long. There are no plans to name it, as it is to represent the spirit of the bull.

Much hard work was put forth on this effort by Lee Forgosh, one of the owners of an art studio here in Manchester, Art 3 Gallery If you see her around town, please let her know how much we appreciate her hard work. This would not have been possible without Irwin Muskat, former CEO of Jac Pac Foods, please also thank him.

The art work was done by Chris Williams, an artist from Essex, MA (about an hours drive from Manchester, NH). All Manchester residents should remember what he has learned "There are so many ways to be creative that basically there are no rules. Only the quality of execution that's important." So take an art class, go to the beach and build a sand castle, enjoy some public music at the bandstand in Stark Park, go out. Be creative, and enjoy the new energy it brings to your life.

Great Things Happening at MAC

Check out the progress of our sculpture.

We're excited to find out what it looks like. Many thanks need to go out to Manchester Arts Commissioners before us. This project was brought to Manchester citizens thanks to the Manchester Art Fund.

This project continues to go well because of our wonderful honorary member, Georgie Reagen, and help from Manchester City's Meena Gyawali.

Stay posted to find out more!
